Modern. Fun. Advanced. Those are just some of the words used to describe the 2016 Ford Focus. For the new model year, the popular compact gets the latest version of the automaker's SYNC advance telematics and infotainment system. Found standard on the Titanium trim level and available on the lower SE and the ST variant, SYNC 3 comes with new software for ease-of-use and faster responsiveness. Siri Eyes Free allows Focus owners to access the popular virtual assistant, while automated updates through Wi-Fi makes sure SYNC 3 has the latest software.
The Ford Focus is offered in sedan and hatchback body styles. Buyers have three trim levels to choose from: base S, mid-level SE and premium Titanium. Variants of the Focus like the sporty ST, the electric EV, and the performance-oriented RS are not covered in this review.
The compact Focus seats five. Hatchback models have up to 674 litres of roomy goodness behind the rear row seats. This expands to 1,269 litres when those seats are folded down. Safety features found standard include an anti-lock brake system, torque vectoring control, a rear view camera, and a tire pressure monitoring setup. The SOS post-crash alert system will flash the car's hazard lights and honk the horn in certain types of collisions. Finally, a driver knee airbag, front-seat side airbags, dual-stage front airbags and electronic stability control round out the compact's extensive safety net.
The Focus S is the entry model into the lineup and is only offered in a sedan body style. Items of note include all the safety features above, a compact spare tire and wheel, power front windows, integrated blind spot mirrors in the larger rear sideview mirrors, and keyless entry via a fob. Power is again provided by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine paired to a five-speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic is available.
The SE is offered in sedan and hatchback body styles. Besides the features from the S, the SE comes with rear power windows, cruise control and a trunklid spoiler (hatchback only). Power is provided by the above 2.0-litre engine or a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo. Transmission is either a standard six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic.
The Titanium is also offered in both body styles. It comes equipped with a standard power driver's seat, leather trims on the seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, fog lamps, a reverse sensing system, remote start and the new SYNC 3.
Several standalone and bundled options like the Winter Package are available for the Focus especially the SE and the Titanium.
